New temporary bar Welcome to the Otherside is coming to Subi for the summer, popping up behind the Corner Gallery from Nov 26 – Dec 13.
- Dates:Nov 26 - Dec 13
- Time(s):4pm to 9pm
- Hosted By:Otherside Brewing Co and Crafted Events WA
- Venue Address:263 Hay St, Subiaco WA
- Food & Drink:Beer,Cider,Spirits,Wine
Brewed up by the Triple-1-Three team, the powerhouse behind Otherside Brewing Co. and Freo.Social, the venue will transform the un-activated space behind the iconic pink walls of the Corner Gallery into a somewhat hidden bar.
The venue will be home to container bar with a rooftop area (think Fringeworld pop-up bar), a performance space for music and art, a kids play area and social spaces. Surprisingly, the little-known space can actually accommodate up to 450 people, so the more the merrier.
Drink offerings have a clear WA focus, featuring a 20-tap bar pouring pints of the Otherside core range, their most recent experimental brews (including a Christmas-themed sour and U.S. IPA), Vasse Felix wines, ciders and WA spirits.
Welcome to the Otherside will be hopping to new locations throughout the summer, with each new spot getting a limited-edition cocktail menu, an on-site food truck and guest cooks from local restaurants.

In the vein of plays such as Twelfth Night, Lake Disappointment explores the concept of double identity, but gives it a contemporary twist. This funny monologue explores an A list film star's body double and the twisted world he inhabits. As the play questions who this character is it serves to question the world that we have constructed and its psychological effects on those who embrace the norms of the body-beautiful and social popularity. Two truths exist simultaneously in this play, and as those truths morph and change we are left with a clear understanding that those who buy into the norms that are constructed in places such as social media can be left bereft, stranded on a desert island of their own making. Our character is a sad and wilted Prospero who has created a world of delusion but who has enslaved only himself.Lake Disappointment is a tragedy, and not unlike King Lear who wanders alone on the moors, the unnamed character in Lake Disappointment has invested in the wrong story and the wrong people, and so has lost himself in his aspiration to be loved. And as there are two truths evident in this play, it is both a tragedy and a beautiful comedy.
Presented by Turquoise Theatre, Directed by Susannah Thompson, Featuring Joel Sammels.
