Description

The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and Edith Cowan University present the WAAPA Music Feast on Saturday 5 December from 11.00 am until 7.00 pm at the Mount Lawley campus. A celebration of music, live performance and the end of a challenging yet rewarding year.

Four venues will come alive at ECU’s Mount Lawley campus, each one dedicated to a different genre of music. The Richard Gill Auditorium hosts the classical music department with performances encompassing Classical Voice and Opera and various instrumental ensembles, which will delight audiences with their virtuosity. The Edith will host 8 hours of Jazz, Latin Jazz, Afro Peruvian Jazz, large and small ensemble, including the acclaimed WAAPA Big Band. The Amphitheatre stage will see a representation of the Contemporary Music program, including the Music Artists, gifted singer/songwriters, encompassing rock, pop, folk, indie, soul, hip-hop, and R&B styles and in the Spectrum Gallery Space the Composition and Music Technology students, staff and alumni will present an eclectic mix of original music performance, spatial sound, and video.

This is a free, family-friendly, unlicensed event. Each venue’s capacity is based on the latest government advice regarding COVID-19 health and safety guidelines.

Bernie Dieter’s Berlin Underground

Join multi-award-winning cabaret performer Bernie Dieter and her degenerate family of misfits in the darkest, funniest, and most debauched club at Crown Perth.

Description

The Gemma Farrell Quintet was formed when she moved back to Perth in 2013, after six years away. The group had their debut performance for the Perth Jazz Society at the Perth International Jazz Festival in 2015. Launching their debut album in June 2018 'Organised Chaos' - the album featured on RTRFM as the local feature album, and the group nominated for Best Jazz Act at the 2018 WAM awards. 

The quartet has performed around Perth, at the 2018 and 2019 Perth International Jazz Festival, as well as In The Pines 2019, and the 2019 King Street Corner Pocket Jazz Festival. 'Organised Chaos' was nominated for Best Instrumental Jazz Album at the 2019 Australian Jazz Bell Awards and the track 'Be Like Abraham' was nominated for Best Jazz Work of the Year. The group was also nominated for Best Jazz Act at the 2019 WAM awards. In November 2019, the group toured Australia, performing at the Sydney Women's International Jazz Festival, Jazz Music Institute Brisbane and the Jazzlab Melbourne.

Jazz vocalist Daisy Fanning invites you to come and celebrate the love affair between Hollywood and jazz. From the 1940s all the way to now, Hollywood’s infatuation with jazz has enriched the love stories of our favourite characters.

This show spans more modern classics from When Harry Met Sally (can men and women really be just friends?), Sleepless In Seattle, and Bridget Jones’ Diary, to best-loved vintage films like Guys and Dolls and Some Like It Hot.

Daisy will pay tribute to the best romantic movies of Hollywood and the soundtracks that make them great. She will be joined by some of Perth’s finest jazz musicians:

Description

On the 10th of December 2020 at Lyric's Underground at 8pm (doors at 7pm) three divas deliver a fun night of jazz favourites. Perth jazz diva Leah Guelfi, British-Australian soprano and jazz singer Daniella Sicari and Australian mezzo soprano Caitlin Cassidy are joined by a hot band including Ben Matthews (piano), Karl Brown (drums) and Djuna Lee (bass).

This concert was born of three singer friends who met at WAAPA studying in the Classical Voice Department, though all three had a concurrent love for jazz singing. The three singers have since performed in New York, London, Manchester, interstate and locally on concert stages, jazz and cabaret clubs, Fringe festivals and opera houses.

Three rising vocalists of the Perth jazz scene join forces with some members of the Rubaclava Orchestra to present an evening of swingin’ jazz.

Influenced by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Chet Baker and Sarah Vaughan, we’ll transport you back to the era of speakeasies, Old Fashioned cocktails, and the Golden Age of Jazz.

Simone’s dual career in music and theatre has taken her across Asia, Europe and The States. The WA born Singer & Actress has been based in London for the last 20 years, performing in Europe’s most prestigious venues, including Ronnie Scotts, Houses of Parliament and Australia House. She has a presence born of leading roles on the West End stage & International tours of Annie, Jesus Christ Superstar, Dirty Dancing and Hello Dolly!

Having already played the Edinburgh Fringe & London Jazz Festival, Simone was thrilled to return home last year, winning the 2020 Music & Musicals Award for her FRINGE WORLD debut, Nina, Love Simone. Simone is proud to present her world premiere of Ella & Louis, collaborating with the 2019 Music & Musicals Award winners, Adam Hall & Adrian Galante.
