He has worked with numerous talents such as James Morrison, Don Burrows, 45-year-long former leader of the Count Basie Orchestra Frank Foster, Shirley Horn's band, Vanessa Amorosi and Grace Knight, to name just a few. In 2005 he formed a classic Rhythm & Blues band, ‘Adam Hall & The Velvet Playboys’ and the Hot 6. Accomplished guitarist and vocalist Mark Turner and jazz/blues singer Jessie Gordon have known each other for many years since he was a mere slip of a 12-year-old and she was a willowy redhead avoiding the sun at all opportunities. Over 20 years of friendship have ensued, with music as the cornerstone of their lives. This show is improvised, with songs chosen by the audience, some old favourites, and some created on the spot. After winning both the 2019 and 2020 FRINGE WORLD Weekly Music Awards, Jessie and Mark also toured the show through Germany and Spain. Their ‘meet cute’ happened when Nicola left her sheet music for her WAAPA audition on the bus. Ben overheard the commotion and, knowing her audition songs, kindly offered to accompany her. From that point on they have been fast friends and have toured Australia together performing Nicola’s original music.

She has also recorded nine albums, including two with Mark Turner (Best Friends 2019 and Live at Kidogo 2021), an original album (A Work of Friction 2018), two intercontinental albums entitled Berlin Nights (2017) and Unknowable Journey (2020) with Berlin band Ginger Blues, the latter of which won the German Blues Award for 2020, and most recently the eponymous Sassafras (2021).
