The University founded the first international arts festival for Perth in 1952, elevating the city’s cultural status and positioning Perth as an important destination for the arts. This historic commitment to the arts is extends beyond the summer festivals. Year round, the campus is abuzz with events and activities programmed by on-campus cultural agencies and faculties.

Cultural Precinct

The UWA Cultural Precinct lies at the heart of the university’s arts and events programming. The precinct encompassed the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, the Berndt Museum, the university theatres, as well as UWA publishing. Throughout university semesters and beyond, the Precinct curates and presents a bounty of exhibitions, performances, talks, workshops and seminars.

Conservatorium of Music

As one of Australia’s leading music schools in one of the world’s leading universities, the UWA Conservatorium of Music transforms individuals to release their full creative potential. Each year, the Conservatorium presents a vibrant program of concerts and events that showcase young emerging artists and the finest musical talent locally, nationally and internationally.

Institute for Advanced Studies

Each year the Institute of Advanced Studies hosts or co-hosts public talks and other events by distinguished visiting and local scholars, artists, writers and public intellectuals. These events contribute to the Institute’s goal of sharing current research, new ideas and encouraging discussion and debate within the broader community.
