Description

Now The Kite String Tangle jump-starts 2020 with new anthemic single ‘NORTH’ and the announcement of his forthcoming second studio album C()D3X dropping March 2020.

2019 was a breakout year for The Kite String Tangle with a shift to a harder, darker, more electronic sound, a residency in Berlin, sold out headline Australian shows and performances at some of Australia’s biggest regional Festivals.

C()D3X will be supported by a national album tour in May/June which will see audiences cram the dancefloor for The Kite String Tangle’s new darker, electrifying live show across capital cities and select regional towns.

‘NORTH’ - which comes along with a beautifully shot video from Dyllan Corbett – is another undeniable dancefloor anthem from the Brisbane artist/producer, with driving synths accompanied by Danny Harley’s signature vocals.

The single further strengthens the darker direction that The Kite String Tangle is taking which started with last year’s singles ‘P()L4R’ and ‘KILLING TIME’. 'P()L4R' was highly spun on triple j and a regular on the Shazam charts, followed by fan favourite ‘KILLING TIME’ featuring the brilliant vocals of Eliott.

The Kite String Tangle has also enlisted local and overseas talent to remix the new single, with both a Summer Festival ready remix of ’NORTH' from Motez and a peaktime 3am warehouse mix from the UK’s Shadow Child now available on all streaming services.

It’s been a busy couple of years for the Brisbane producer. The release of his debut self-titled album in 2017 which saw him nominated for an ARIA award, three national headline tours, much-talked about sets at Splendour in the Grass and FOMO festivals amongst others. In 2018 he released single ‘Give It Time’, won a Queensland Music Award, played captivating sets at local and international festivals.

Then there was also the release of mini album The Kite String Tangle Presents: In A Desperate Moment which resulted in two sold out shows with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in Brisbane. All this came alongside the announcement of his own record label Exist. Recordings which has put out well received releases from Brisbane producer Golden Vessel and sibling duo Lastlings.

Description

crtive mgmt. & Select Music presents SLY WITHERS and special guests The Lazy Susans and Semantics, on tour nationally this May & June.

To coincide with the release of ‘Explode Into View,’ the first single from their forthcoming new album, Sly Withers has announced they’ll be embarking on a national tour this May and June, starting in Hobart and working their way around capital cities and regional centres across the country. Tickets are on sale now from www.slywithers.com

On their breakout 2019 EP, Gravis, and particularly its killer single ‘Lately’ feat. Carla Geneve, Sly Withers showed that they had tremendous potential to perhaps break free of the confines of the Australian punk and indie rock scene they were raised on, and make a name for themselves as their own unique entity. ‘Explode Into View’ is the fulfilment of that and then some.

Nothing between then and now has changed in the band’s make-up. Same four members – Mata (guitar / vox), Sam Blitvich (guitar / vox), Joel Neubecker (drums) and Shea Moriarty (bass) – using the same producer as Gravis (Matthew Templeman at his studio in Mount Hawthorn), but now they possess not only another hard year on the road of shows under their belts (including major sets at Falls Festival and supporting the likes of Amy Shark and Slowly Slowly), and a self-belief that can only be built on the back of hard work and a camaraderie forged across sticky floors and tour vans. The result is a towering sound that is much, much greater than the sum of its parts, yet reflects the depth of the emotional core of the band and the love they share for the music they make together.

We acknowledge that these events are taking place on stolen land. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

Description

Celebrated US gothic-rock/folk/doom-metal luminary CHELSEA WOLFE has announced her first full tour of Australia since 2012, scheduled for June nexr year.

Following her first ever New Zealand tour with shows in Auckland & Wellington, Chelsea Wolfe will bring her visceral, vivid live performance to Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane.

Wolfe will tour with her four-piece band, as well as bringing along Sargent House labelmate EMMA RUTH RUNDLE performing solo as support.

Chelsea Wolfe will perform a career-spanning set on this tour, including songs from her new album “Birth of Violence” released last September.

Chelsea Wolfe last played in Australia in 2016 for Tasmania’s Dark Mofo event, with her last full national tour back in 2012.

Since then, she has continued to earn a cult following worldwide, propelling her previous albums ‘Hiss Spun’ (2017) & ‘Abyss’ (2015) onto the Billboard 200 albums chart and further critical acclaim.

From Roskilde Festival to selling out clubs worldwide, Chelsea Wolfe’s versatility as a performer and songwriter is on full display at her live performances, whether solo or with her band.

2020 will mark 10 years since her debut ‘The Grime and The Glow’ was released, sparking a career that has influenced and inspired fans across continents to appreciate life in both its darkness and light.

‘Birth of Violence’ was written and recorded in solitude at home in Northern California. Following the brooding heaviness of ‘Hiss Spun’, Wolfe chose to return to her folk roots. These songs describe ‘an internal awakening of feminine energy, a connection to the maternal spirit of the Earth and a defiant stance against the destructive and controlling forces of a greedy and hostile patriarchy.’

Opening track ‘The Mother Road’ quickly establishes this sound: simultaneously unnerving and soothing. Whilst critical reviews have been positive, it’s perhaps the feedback from her fans that best describes the power and allure of Chelsea Wolfe in its simplest form:

‘After the doomy heaviness of Hiss Spun, another acoustic record – she seriously can nail it in any style’

‘Her heavier, doomy records got me into her music, but her acoustic material is completely entrancing.’

‘I cannot believe I am lucky enough to be alive in a time where Chelsea Wolfe exists’

Chelsea Wolfe will be joined at all shows on this tour by singer songwriter EMMA RUTH RUNDLE. The curator of this year’s Roadburn Festival, Emma Ruth Rundle is revered for her powerful and evocative songwriting as much as her artistic flair and versatility. In addition to her work with renowned groups RED SPAROWES, MARRIAGES & THE NOCTURNES, Emma has released five solo records, most recently 2018’s ‘On Dark Horses.’ Her passionate live performances are renowned as much as her songcraft and Australian & Kiwi fans will finally get to experience her live performances for the first time ever this June.

The Inbetween: Online launch for song of hope

Perth singer-songwriter Mel Kay is releasing a song for our times, giving hope to those in lockdown life.

  • Dates:June 5
  • Time(s):7pm

Details

  • Ticket Price:Free event
  • Music:Free,Gig Guide,Other Music,Popular Music

Description

PERTH singer-songwriter Mel Kay is releasing a song for our times, giving hope to those in lockdown life.

The Inbetween is her reminder that being physically alone is not the same as being lonely and there are sparks of beauty even in the darkest moments.

“It’s about overcoming the need to cling to the past and learning to accept the present,” Mel said.

“The song is about the moment before you heal, when you are still broken by what life has thrown at you – when you are stuck in the pause between pain and redemption.

“In society, we all seem to be constantly rushing to the next big milestone moment in our lives but forget that each step is finite but so important.

The Inbetween is about learning to breathe and accepting things the way they are; learning to love yourself, even in the middle of having nothing.”

While The Inbetween might be a reflection of 2020 so far, Mel actually wrote the song five years ago.

“I was moved by what we are all facing and wanted to bring this song to light because I felt the message would relate to a lot of people,” she said.

“In 2015, I was diagnosed with Lyme disease and lost everything so I wrote the song when I was in a lot of pain.

“With a world so full of fear, I wanted to create art that would bring light into life and inspire people to be more of who they are.

“I feel many people are now probably feeling how I did back then so I recorded the song recently and re-arranged it with producer Jordan Azor.”

With a vocal style comparable to Adele and Regina Spektor, Mel has been involved with music since age three.

The WA Academy of Performing Arts graduate has made a name for herself over the past five years with her 10-piece band Liberté, scoring international airplay with the singles Upside Down Town, Let It Burn and Phoenix – the latter one of six finalists for electronic song of the year at the 2018-19 WA Music Awards.

Mel also collaborated with UK producer Backfall on the track You, which came 12th out of 6000 in the international Unsigned Only music competition.

With a percussive style reminiscent of Leona Lewis’ Bleeding Love, Mel said she wanted the music of The Inbetween to build behind her vocals during the recording session but be sparse enough to show space and represent a pause.

“Through the song, I am hoping to create art that other artists around the world can take a spark from,” Mel said.

“I would love to film a music video with multiple artists from around the globe acting, dancing and painting as the song plays.

“I want this song to help people feel peace and know that we are all in this together.

“Most of all, I want The Inbetween to help people be brave and seize the moment because life is now.”

The Inbetween is available on Spotify, iTunes, Soundcloud and YouTube. An online launch with Mel playing her music live will be held via instagram.com/mel.kay.music at 7pm, Friday, June 5.
