Fremantle

View Guides
Markets, restaurants, breweries, bars, history – you’ll find it all in Fremantle. Known for its maritime history, the port city is also home to the Fremantle Prison, which housed convicts from the 1850s to 1991, and the Round House, an 1831 building which also briefly served as a jail. If you’re chasing a good feed, the cappuccino strip is home to numerous Italian restaurants, Mexican joints, and pubs, while the port hosts a brewery and fish & chip shops. If you’re after some local crafts, a trip to the Fremantle Markets is always great value.

Description

Ngaalang Moort (Our Family) is a compilation of stunning lullabies created by Noongar families in 2020, when the world was turned on its head and we couldn’t all meet together.

CAN took the program online and directly into people’s homes, where these talented participants joined facilitators Charmaine Councillor and Phil Bartlett online to learn the basics of Noongar language and songwriting. Once everyone had their song written and learnt, they recorded their vocals at home ready for final studio production by Charmaine, Phil and sound engineer / musician, Sean Lillico.

The conditions make this album an even more remarkable achievement by everyone involved!

These 15 songs reflect the personal experiences of the people involved. They are  a celebration of moort (family), koort (heart), woonya (love) and a legacy for all.

Lullabies is produced by CAN in collaboration with Noongar families and is supported through the Australian Government’s Indigenous Languages and Arts program and the Australia Council for the Arts.

~CUP & STRING:

Released on Universal Music, KMS Records, Large Music, Central Station Records, Slime Recordings, Urban Dubz, M2MR.

Cup & String was an idea between two mates in 2015 who share 2 decades of friendship. What started as banter has turned into a duo producing a variety of House Music and UK garage. Coming from two very different musical backgrounds, one half of the duo specialises in nu disco, and the other is part of an international renowned drum and bass outfit. With their varied knowledge and expertise, the two have created their own sound and have charted multiple times in top 10s on Traxsource, Beatport and Juno.

With a string of exciting releases to come the duo will continue to push the boundaries of electronic music with their feet still firmly planted in the underground.

~WYN:

An up and coming producer/DJ in the Perth bass music scene, WYN has been playing hard-hitting and genre diverse sets at major venues almost every weekend since the launch of her project in mid-

2016. Nightclubs Ambar, Capitol, Villa, Flyrite and Jack Rabbits Slim’s, as well as Sets on the Beach, Falls Festival and Listen Out, are just a few of the venues that have played host to WYN’s dark melodic mixes and soul shaking subs. A lover of glitchy beats, soulful vibes and unique sound design, WYN has been knuckling down to work on a series of original productions. Her debut single, 'Never Be', and latest release ‘A Meeting’, part of ProtoCode’s Ascension LP, encapsulate the breadth of musical diversity she has been inspired by, and foreshadows some huge actions to come from the young producer.

Truckload Of Sky: The Lost Songs Of David Mccomb

Come celebrate a record compiled by friends featuring of David McComb, lead singer and songwriter of Australian band The Triffids. Featuring previously unrecorded songs by the singer.

  • Dates:Jan 30
  • Time(s):7pm
  • Venue:Fremantle Art Centre, Front Garden

Details

  • Ticket Price:$45.90
  • Music:Concert Tours,Tribute Band
  • Event Venue:Fremantle Arts Centre
  • Produced By:Fremantle Arts Centre

Description

Over the past couple of years some friends of David McComb, have been bringing to life various superb songs from his pen. These are songs that were never recorded, during the Triffids’ span in the 70s and 80s, rather they were written in Melbourne and London in the 90s and never properly recorded for various reasons. For the first time ever in WA, an incredibly special ensemble of David’s musical friends will bring these unearthed songs alive at Fremantle Arts Centre.

The songs are not cast-offs, it’s more a case of time running out for their writer, sadly. They were recorded over a couple of summers by an assemblage of musicians who have good reason to believe they could do them the sort of justice they deserve. Members of the Triffids, the Blackeyed Susans and people who had shared a stage and other delights with the man himself, along with musicians who knew him and loved him through his music. They all got to know him a little better in the process.

The record, released on 15 February on what would have been David’s 58th birthday, contains eight brilliant, fresh songs sung by singers who interpret them in utterly convincing fashion.

To celebrate the release, shows will be played around the country featuring most of the folk who appear on the record. The band is Evil Graham Lee and Rob McComb (from the Triffids), Phil Kakulas, J.P. Shilo and Clare Moore (from the Blackeyed Susans, Dave Graney, Hungry Ghosts) and Dan Luscombe, famed Melbourne musician who’s played with more names than he can remember. Singers are Rob Snarski (Blackeyed Susans), Alex Gow (Oh Mercy), Angie Hart (Frente) and the previously mentioned J P Shilo. On the night, special guests will be joining us too.

Expect all the unearthed songs along with a helping of better known Triffids songs. Just as these fine musicians’ have done in recording the album, the audience will get to know David just a little better.

Description

After releasing three great albums in three years and circumnavigating the world five times to perform those records, Babe Rainbow took a creative pause at the end of 2019 in the Topanga Canyon haven of OC born record producer Kyle Mullarky who had almost single-handedly fashioned the West Coast psyche rock sound with Allah-lahs, Tomorrows Tulips, The Growlers.

The band arrived back in Australia with a bunch of new inspirations from those sessions before mother natured flexed her muscle and all the world took a moment.

In the Babe Rainbow camp the arrival of baby Rainbows Dorothy, Jilli May and Sandy added to their creative inspiration and soon the band returned to the familiar surrounds of the Music Farm with producer Wayne Connolly. With time no longer rushed, the band were able to shape those earlier ideas into a new album, more realised lyrically and stylistically than anything they have done prior.
