Denmark, within the Great Southern Region, is a wine region of importance with over 25 wineries producing award winning wines of distinction and diversity. The region’s wines feature on the menus of Michelin Star winning restaurants and are rated highly by world renowned sommeliers, wine writers, judges and critics.

Denmark is 400km south of Perth, set in tree covered hillsides along the Denmark River and Wilson Inlet. Featuring stunning showing Southern Ocean beaches, towering old wood forests, ancient rocks, it is an ideal location to enjoy the laid back local lifestyle and indulge in some delicious wine.

For something a touch stronger, there’s the distillery for internationally awarded whisky, vodka, grappa, gin and brandy. Better yet, sample them all in some of the trendy bars in town.

WA’s oldest port is now held in high regard as one of the state’s most breathtaking and versatile holiday hubs. Boasting some of the state’s premier attractions, you’ll want more than just a few days to explore national parks and beautiful beaches around the bustling port.
Denmark is renowned for producing exceptional cool-climate wines, and that’s a rarity in Western Australia. Riesling, cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, and a little merlot, shiraz and pinot noir are noted drops from the area. Few WA regions have the weather to produce a good riesling or pinot, but Denmark does it nicely.

The superb climate and soils also aid in growing a plethora of gastronomic delights, attracting talented innovative chefs to a wine and food region that stands up with some of the best in the world. Take a drive along the scenic Mount Shadforth Road and the Scotsdale Tourist Drive, where you’ll find a precinct of cellar doors, restaurants, a brewery, cidery and boutique food outlets. If that’s not enough, just follow your nose to the highway, where there’s a host of new options to choose from.

There is a great choice of food outlets open day and night in town, including down by the water, with fresh innovative food and organic offerings starting to make quite an appearance. The roadside stall on Inlet Drive sells freshly caught seafood and shellfish. Don’t leave town without tasting a salted caramel truffle! Wine events in Denmark During the months of March and April every year, Denmark hosts the highly regarded ‘Taste Great Southern’, a food and wine festival featuring more than 70 individual events across the region, including long table lunches, degustation dinners, master classes, food fairs, farmers’ markets, wine festivals, tutored wine tastings and more.
