The City of Wanneroo also has a significant stake in Perth’s cultural heritage. The area is fortunate to have three heritage sites: the historic houses of Cockman House and Buckingham House, as well as the Wanneroo Regional Museum. Located within the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre, the museum opened in September 2009 with a generous exhibition space representing a range of stories and themes – from the region’s Indigenous past through to modern pioneers of city planning. Whilst at the Cultural Centre, visitors can also explore local visual culture at the on-site art gallery.
Throughout the year the City council puts on an array of community-based events. On Australia Day, Wanneroo Showgrounds is transformed into a hub of activities for the Wanneroo Festival. Over the course of summer, Wanneroo residents can enjoy free outdoor movies at the Jacaranda Amphitheatre. The council even boasts a free Dog’s Breakfast in October, which welcomes pooches and families across the City.
