Cervantes to Dongara

View Guides
Starting just two hours north of Perth, via Indian Ocean Drive, this region offers an easy escape to more than 1000km of coastline. Tens of thousands of visitors head to the sunny Coral Coast each year, to play on unspoilt beaches and explore rugged and unique national parks. The southernmost seaside towns make great day-trip or short-break destinations. Cervantes is probably best known for the astonishing Pinnacles Desert. People also visit to feast on fresh seafood, spot sea lions, view wildflowers, and camp on the beach in Dongara-Port Denison.

On the North West Coastal Highway, is the region’s hub. Geraldton is a trendy seaside city with new cafes, shops and art galleries. Beautiful beaches and a warm, windy climate attract water-sport enthusiasts. Two hours further north, Kalbarri is surrounded by national park, with quad-biking, sandboarding, skydiving and horseriding adventures on offer.

While Monkey Mia’s friendly dolphins are a major drawcard, Shark Bay has so much more to offer. Check out the area’s contrasting landscapes, wildlife and flora to see why it is listed as a World Heritage area.

On the highway north of Shark Bay, Carnarvon enjoys a warm, sunny climate all year round and is a great place to sample local fruit, vegetables and seafood. The entire coast makes for a magical roadtrip, with phenomena like the Carnarvon blowholes, 75km north of the town.

At the top of the reef is another World Heritage area. The Ningaloo Coast spans 300km along pristine coastline, from Red Bluff to Exmouth. While it offers boundless opportunities to see marine life on the world’s largest fringing reef, the area is best known for its giant whale sharks.

Join the trail via the board-walked Wetlands Trail which skirts North Lake and takes you through the wetlands area which is teaming with bird life. Keep an eye out for the Yanget (bullrush) used by local Noongar people for food.

The Ghost House Walk Trail offers plenty of interst and variety as it passes through tuart forest, banksia woodlands and coastal heath. The trail ends at Cabaret Cave and is a short walk back to the hub of Yanchep where you can stop for a coffee, refreshing ale or lunch.

One of the draw cards of Yanchep is the koala Boardwalk.  Koalas are fussy eaters and only eat certain types of eucalyptus leaves.  They are not native to Western Australia and Yanchep is one of the few places you can see them.  You'll pass through the koala feed plantation on your way from McNess House to the start of the trail.

Yanchep National Park is a hub of walk trails of varying length and difficulty.  After completing your walks, why not hire a boat to row over the lake (seasonal), take a guided tour of the caves, visit the koalas or enjoy a barbeque in the park amongst the kangaroos.

Mindarie Marina

Located just 30 minutes from Perth City the Mindarie Marina is the perfect location whether you are looking for a holiday, weekend getaway, function venue or a relaxing afternoon by the ocean.

  • Suited For:Families

Details

Description

The Mindarie Marina has recently celebrated its 20th anniversary having been officially opened in May 1989 by the then Premier Peter Dowding.
The harbour, originally scheduled to take 38 weeks to build, was completed in just 32 weeks (eight months) an impressive effort for a project of that scale. The first stage of the Hotel/Marina complex was completed at a cost of $34 million.

Over the past 20 years the Marina has undergone not only a huge development blitz in the surrounding areas but has also experienced its own facelifts and refurbishments with some sensational new additions to the Mediterranean style Boardwalk area. The latest additions having recently been completed in July 2006 involving the redevelopment of the boardwalk area with the addition of the Indian Ocean Microbrewery and Restaurant.

The Marina itself is approximately 13.5 hectares (34 acres) with the depth varying from two to five metres. The maximum depth of cut is 18 metres, with a harbour entrance of 50 metres next to an 800 metre breakwater. Constructed in 1988, sixty machines were used to excavate and compact approximately 30,000 cubic metres per day.

  • Open days/Times:Every day
  • Activity:Fruit Farm,Fruit Picking
  • Suited For:Families
  • Type:Attractions

Details

  • Open Days:Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday,Friday,Saturday,Sunday

Description

At The Mango Farm we are proud to present our mangoes in the very best possible condition. The fruit has been left to mature on the trees and only when the optimum sugar and flavour level has been reached is the fruit picked and presented to you.

Why our Mangoes taste better?

It is no secret that fruit grown in a more temperate environment have a superior flavour and higher sugar content. Our orchard has been established much further south than typical tropical plantations. Perth’s cold winter has proved to be advantageous giving our fruit the edge when it comes to flavour and sweetness. At The Mango Farm, our trees have been propagated from seed sourced from the Bowen region of Queensland.

In 1992 the seed from trees which were renowned for their flavour were chosen ensuring the quality of the fruit we produce. The fruit available here is free from insecticides and pesticides. Fruit fly and other pest control is achieved through selected baiting. We trust you will enjoy the sensational taste of our mangoes and look forward to your visit at The Mango Farm.
